As the family began to heal, they saw a rainbow appear in their orchard. It served as a sweet reminder that Skylar Rae was still with them. Shortly after, Troy Toftness, Skylar Rae’s father, discovered a cherry growing on a single tree in the orchard that was unlike any he had ever seen before.
Typically, new cherry varieties found in the wild are not viable for commercial production, but this was no ordinary cherry. The cherry possessed unique genetics and an exceptionally sweet flavor profile with great firmness. The family felt it was a gift from nature in honor of their beautiful daughter, Skylar Rae Toftness. When it came time to trademark a name, the unanimous decision was to name the cherry brand “Skylar Rae®.”
